CardBoard Sculpture: Control

The adjective picked to design my sculpture around was control. I decided to take this design literally instead of a more abstract meaning of the word. I decied to use the sculpture to control the movement of people in the room. The images above show the process I used to test how people moved around obstructions.
After experimentation I determined that the majority of people moved to whatever side had the most apparent space. So I put the obstruction in the middle of the walkway most people used and then moved it slightly to one side. The result is most people walked on the side with more space even if it was out of there way.

The final design of my sculpture was meant to have an aspect of obstruction, while maintaining a sense of transparency. You can look through and into the sculpture, but it is tall enough that you must move around it and not over it. It is wider on one side and shorter on the other so it will appear more streamlined when coming from the side halls. However it will look more obstructive coming from the front foyer creating a pillar that people must move around.
